2016 Chevrolet Colorado LT Vs 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Z71

Serving Florence, SC

The 2016 Chevy Colorado LT and Z71 are the higher editions of the truck that U.S. News and World Reports has rated as #1 in its class. Picking the right truck is definitely a matter of taste when it comes to these two thoroughbred editions.

Road Manners

Under the hood, both the LT and Z71 offer a choice of engines. The newest is the Duramax. This class-leading diesel cranks out 369 lb.-ft. of torque to increase towing and cargo capability. Kelley Blue Book’s review praises this new powertrain as smooth and controlled. This is due to the vibration damping provided by the diesel’s special Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber. The gas-powered V6 generates 305 horsepower for more performance. It kicks out 269 lb.ft. of torque to assist with the heaviest loads. It still manages to earn 24 mpg highway. The LT also offers the standard I4. This fuel-sipping truck works as hard at daily tasks as it does when paying the owner back at the pump. It earns 27 mpg highway, making it the class leader. Both the LT and Z71 come with a choice of all-wheel or four-wheel drive. The Colorado has a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA.

Style

As reviewers have written, the Colorado has high-end materials in all of its cabins. Soft-touch materials and intelligent ergonomics make the cabin a pleasant place to be. The Luxury LT edition adds heated front seats and automatic climate control. The Z71 adds its own unique blend of cloth and leatherette upholstery. Power front seats ensure a more pleasant ride. Both trim levels can be paired with the extended cab, which seats four, or the crew cab, which seats five. One advantage of these higher editions is that they offer a long list of dash tech features plus an OnStar WiFi hotspot. Style continues on the exterior. The LT is dressed with 16-inch alloy wheels and body-color bumper, mirrors, and handles. The Luxury LT edition trades the body-color trim for chrome. The Z71 looks more distinctive with its unique LED daytime running lights and big all-terrain tires. There’s a dark tint to its grille surround and special 17-inch alloy wheels. The Z71 Trail Boss special edition has black accents including its painted wheels, round rocker steps, special Chevy emblems, and fender flares. Both the LT and Z71 offer short and long box configurations. The bed is deeper than that of many rivals.

The Offroad

While the LT is quite capable of going on the trail in its four-wheel drive edition, the Z71 is definitely the off-road boss. The Z71 has an off-road-tuned suspension that can take punishment. Wheels can travel more freely, always a good thing when driving on rough turf. The Z71 has an extra inch of ground clearance, too. Hill descent control steadies it on inclines. Z71 equipment extras include a transfer case shield, an EZ Lift tailgate, and foglamps. The Z71 Trail Boss adds a sport bar with LED trail lighting.
